America in Historic Color

In the second half of the 19th century, Boston's L. Prang & Company produced color lithographic prints of poplar scenes across the United States. Prang's technically complex process of color lithograph made possible for people of average means to purchase vivid color imaged created on the spot by famous artists. Today these prints are a window to the popular scenes and tastes of that time in American history. The more than 100 images included here span the continent from the eastern shore and mountains to the Rockies, the Sierra, and the Pacific Coast.
